What Do We Do?
Descom rides the crest of the wave, so we always have a broad, forward view. And what’s out there? Interesting projects, of course, in which software developers can work with the latest Java frameworks.
Because we are IBM’s most important partner in Finland, we build our solutions on IBM platforms. The online stores of Stockmann, Hobby Hall, and Sokos’ online beauty shop are examples of stores we have built on WebSphere Commerce. Our employees also utilize the WebSphere Portal Server, Message Broker, and Connections. Platforms shouldn't pose a problem. With the proper know-how, they can always be adapted according to any specific need, if necessary.

What Is Work Like At Descom?
We have offices in Jyväskylä, Helsinki, and Tampere. Our video conference rooms are thus in heavy use. In addition, we have virtual lives in our internal social media network, which has entirely replaced our Intranet. Units and teams share information fluently in their own communities, and people use their status updates to ask for their colleagues’ opinions or to find a guru for a specific problem.
For recreation, Descom employees have the deXtreme Club, where they can try extreme and experiential sports, as well as clubs for disc golf and serious board games. Downstairs at the Jyväskylä office, our bands, Destunes and the support act put together this spring, can practice in their own band cave.
Our people can get their minds effectively off work by shooting pool or playing pinball. Time has also been allocated for professional training, because maintaining and developing your expertise is important. At the job interview, you will find out more, for example, about our Brown Bag sessions, in which internal information is shared between teams. You can develop your language skills in English conversation groups, one of which seems to be engaged in intense debate in the picture below.
How to Get a Job at Descom
Because our clients want us to provide more eBusiness solutions to benefit their own business, we need more people to create them. Vacancies are listed on our Finnish page, but you can always leave an open application, also.
Job applications are processed within two weeks of filing. You will either receive an invitation to an interview or a letter that, unfortunately, only thanks you for your application. Hopefully in the future, we will have a more fitting position for your skills.
Our staff consists of professionals with a very long experience as well as students on the final leg of their studies. A common denominator is a curious mind and eagerness to “play” with everything new. Know-how and attitude are the secrets to success.
