Finnsteve Extranet Portal

Finnsteve wanted to provide its customers access to information systems based on IBM iSeries in a modern way without VPN connections and learning how to use terminal applications. At the same time, it had to be possible to inform the customers about important notifications, e.g. working hours during holidays.

An Extranet portal was designed as a solution. Through the portal identified users are able to use terminal applications with a web user interface and browse important notifications. IBM WebSphere HATS technology was used in transforming the terminal applications user interface for use in the web. This technology integrates portal with iSeries environment seamlessly, including user identification and access control.   

With this solution the customers do not need to know how to use traditional terminal applications or to use VPN connections. Web user interfaces are also already well-known to most of the user groups. In addition, it is possible to provide other services through the new portal user interface, for example web content publishing, and integrating multiple terminal applications to a single screen improves the user experience while saving time and effort from the end users.
