Descom Oy

Descom net sales up 38% in 2009, to €11.3 million

Our net sales totalled €11.3 million during the 2009 financial year. This represented an increase of approx. 38% on the €8.2 million recorded in 2008. Profitability also improved compared to 2008 and was at a good level. We employed 100 people as of the end of the financial year.

“2009 was an excellent year for us,” says Descom’s CEO, Juha Harju. “Our growth was driven by the solid demand for e-Business solutions in the marketplace today, which has replaced the hype typical of the beginning of the decade. Many organisations, even conservative ones, are now investing heavily in e-Commerce and other e-Business solutions; and this has been reflected in the launch of a number of new online stores and large-scale portals.”

We succeeded in winning a number of major new customers last year, including Moventas, a leading manufacturer of wind turbine gear systems, the Hong Kong chain of discount department stores, and Gridit, a provider of electronic service network systems. “We expect to continue growing in 2010 as well, based in large part on the contracts that we signed at the end of last year,” continues Harju.

“A number of projects for major new customers, particularly in the area of online shopping sites, are set to move forward this year. We also expect to further extend our partnerships with existing customers, such as Stockmann and the Finnish Defence Forces. This growth will see us continuing to recruit new staff, both expert personnel and new talent looking for their first job in the industry. As a result, our personnel numbers will probably rise by around 30 this year.”

Today’s Descom is the outcome of the merger of Descom Oy and Integware Oy in August 2009. The company has targeted increasingly its net sales and personnel many times over by 2014. Descom has extensive experience in the e-Business field and has supplied systems to numerous customers, including Finland’s largest online store to Hobby Hall, an internal portal to the Finnish Defence Forces, and a joint internal portal for the Siwa, Valintatalo, and Euromarket retail chains.
