Aim high

We are currently working on new service management development plans at Descom. This involves continuing investment in consistent and higher quality service management. To find ideas in support of our development, and to learn about the field's latest trends, I attended the itSMF UK 2011 conference in London, organized by the IT Service Management Forum.

We are not the only organization interested in service management. Participants came from 31 different countries. The performers, business partners, and exhibitors were also from several countries. Some of the performers were absolutely brilliant and really captured the audience’s attention, while some performances required harder concentration.

I never had to leave a lecture empty-handed, as each of them offered something useful. During the two-day conference, it was nice to receive assurance that we are doing a lot of things wisely at Descom. On the other hand, it was at least as important to identify the areas we can develop to become even better.

Summarizing such a comprehensive conference this briefly is neither possible nor meaningful. However, all of us should remember a thought presented by one of the keynote speakers, 11-time Paralympic gold medalist Tanni Grey-Thompson: Aim high, because if you don't try, you can't succeed!

A service manager's days are far from boring. I make sure that the development and maintenance services we provide for our customers keep running smoothly. Each day involves tackling challenges with top professionals. I will not take a passive role, but I am actively involved in developing Descom's customer service and other practices. Fly-fishing is how I unwind from work.
